I love travelling and one of the reasons why is I adore trying out new hotels. Of course, we’ve experienced a few that we loved and which have never disappointed, so why take the risk and go somewhere else one might ask? (And so I ask myself sometimes when we get a really bad one…) The answer is: nothing beats the anticipation before checking-in and the sense of wonder when we discover another hidden gem.
So here we head into FX hotel in central Taipei, after a long train ride from Hualien. The first impression is: Oops, wrong place. Have we entered a nightclub? The booming sound of bass and loud music combined with the deep purple and neon decor surely would entice one to think so. Moving on to the counter: the male receptionist welcomes us with nice smile, overlarge hipster glasses and a very deep V t-shirt under his slim-cut blazer. “Interesting” my husband says and I stifle a laugh. It looks like the designer for this place took a leaf out of How to be a hipster…for dummies and applied everything too literally.
The guestroom is spacious, clean and has all the basic amenities like a safe, a large work desk, hair dryer and slippers. The free wifi works well. Although we were located right beside the elevators, the soundproofing proved itself efficient. True to its lobby’s style, the room is decorated with a lot of rich gem-like colors and a lot of velvet texture.
Overall, we liked the hotel. This place ticks all our boxes once again for location and food (which is what being in Taipei is all about) with it being steps away from Nanjing Fuxing metro station and from another night market Liaoning Street Night Market. It’s also extremely clean and reasonably-priced. Just maybe tone down a little on the trendy vibe….
